Campaign
for Pesticide Reduction
What
are other communities doing?
Over
the last decade the number of municipal by-laws adopted
across Canada has increased to a total of 71.
Municipalities
of all sizes have passed various forms of pesticide by-laws.
The largest is the City of Toronto with a population of
2.48 million and the smallest being Sainte- Paule, Québec
with a population of 199 citizens.
When all the current
regulations and by-laws come into full effect the total
number of Canadians protected from unwanted exposure to
synthetic lawn and garden pesticides will grow to over 11.5
million or approximately 36% of Canada's population, (based
on 2001 Census).
