Common Plant Pests

Leafminer

Characteristics:

Leaf miners are the larval stage of certain small insects that tunnel between the upper and lower surfaces of leaves. As they feed, they make distinctive winding trails or blotches.

Since they attack leaves, they are of most concern on leafy vegetables such as spinach and chard. Seedlings may be killed or their growth severely retarded by very high populations.

Remedies:

Floating row cover

Hosts:

Beet
Spinach
Swiss chard
