Root weevil

Characteristics:

Many species of root weevils feed on landscape plants such as rhododendron and azalea. Adults feed at night, leaving notches in leaf edges. Larvae eat roots, sometimes causing plants to die.

Adult root weevils are about 1/3 inch long, with a long, curved snout. When disturbed, they fall to the ground and play dead.
